Zatim hidratantna krema, zbog moje dehidrirane kože, i dosta vode. WHAT DON’T YOU BOARD A PLANE WITHOUT? - It’s always cold for me, so I need little socks or a blanket. Then hydrating cream, due to my dehydrated skin, and plenty of water. WHY DO YOU LIKE PLANES? - Travel excites me. The fact that we can be on di erent sides of the world in a relatively short period of time thrills me. I learnt to travel by plane very early on, as a young fashion model, ying from NewYork FashionWeek to fashion week events in Paris, Milan or Tokyo. Even back then I realised how important planes are, they are like a best friend for someone who does this kind of work. WHICH DESTINATION HAS REMAINED FOREVER IN YOUR MEMORY? - Japan is one of my favourite destinations. That’s probably because I’ve done a lot of work with Japanese fashion houses, which regularly invited me to be the face of their brands. I’ve had the privilege of flying to Japan at least five times. I was fascinated at how much more technologically advanced than the rest of the world they are. That fusion of tradition and high technology is captivating. They are a hard-working and diligent people, which is why they have such a high standard of living. ZAŠTO VOLITE AVIONE? – Uzbuđuju me putovanja. NA PUTU / ONTHEROAD AVIONKAO NAJBOLJI PRIJATELJ A PLANE IS LIKE A BEST FRIEND Tekst / Words: Ljiljana Perović Fotografije / Photography: Goran Srdanov JELENA IVANOVIĆ,MODEL ZAŠTO VOLITE BEOGRAD? WHY DO YOU LOVE BELGRADE? - Belgrade is a city that has a soul. Apart from that, it also has an excellent geographical position, at the centre of Europe, and from there one can easily reach all parts of the world. It was while doing modelling work that I realised how easy it is for me to travel both eastwards and westwards – much easier than it is for someone who lives in Australia or America. It’s my city and I love it very much.

Under theslogan“Every journey tailored to you”, he presented all the bene ts of personalised travel with Air Serbia to passengers. In a very appealing video, Biković simultaneously plays categories of passenger ranging from white (travel without luggage), blue (with luggage) and red ( exible reservation), presenting all thebene ts that guests receive depending on the selected ight tari . Howdid you find the filmshoots for the Air Serbia promotional videos? - It was fun, quick, easy and dynamic; I really had a good time. And I think the result is also good. It’s actually the best when things combine to produce an appealing and witty result, and when the lming process is fast and professional. Your character in the promo videos is quite keen to chat with his fellow travellers. Are you like that when you travel, or are you one of those who listens tomusic or reads a book without disturbing others? -Not all of thosecharacters I portrayed while playing this dividedperson are really predisposed to chat. When it comes to me personally, that depends on how tired I am. Aboard the plane I prefer to switch o and, if I’m able, to sleep, because I often travel between two shooting days or some other obligations. I carry a book and headphones, everything that helps me in that moment, because I spend a good part of my life aboard planes. Considering how often I y with Air Serbia, especially along the Belgrade-Moscow route, it was logical for me to either start paying rent, because I live aboard planes, or for Air Serbia to propose that we collaborate. As you know, this latter option happened. Have you evermet someone during a flight who later became a friend or lover? - I encountermany friends, that’smost often the case. So, I meet peoplewho I already know. Of course, I also meet many other people. I haven’t made new close friends in that way, but I have made new acquaintances. Could you describe to us how you feel when boarding a flight bound for Belgrade after spending a long period abroad? - I’mhappyevery timewhen I return to Belgrade. It’s always nice for me to board a plane that will yme home, andparticularly when I land in Belgrade, and during that journey from the airport I look around to see what’s changed. That’s because, even though I y very often, sometimes two or threemonths pass between trips, so I cannotice things that happened in themeantime. I always have some nice feeling when returning home. What’s the most important factor for you when you travel by plane? - When there’s no room left in economy class, so they transfer me to business class. Howoftenare youpersonally a red, blue or white traveller? - If we’re talking about the state of my health during a ight, then I switch between all those colours. Joking aside, I’msomewhere between awhite and a silver guest. I often y without luggage because I’mheading on a short trip, but I y in business class whenever I can. After this experience, whichof your characters from the promo video will you think of the most on your next Air Serbia flight? - I rarely think of the characters I play. When I’m not working and not lming, I don’t think about my heroes. But I love it when I end up being surprised by what I’ve done. These three characters fromthe video are simultaneouslyme and not me, I couldn’t single out one of them in particular. Uvek mi je lepo kad uđem u avion koji leti kući It’s always nice for me to board a plane that will fly me home

24 | / OTKUD ČOMSKI UUMETNIČKOJ IGRI? WHAT’S CHOMSKY DOING INARTISTICDANCE? U SUSRET BEOGRADSKOM FESTIVALU IGRE PREVIEWING THEBELGRADE DANCE FESTIVAL

Njegov komad Fraktus V označava prirodne naprsline neophodne za rast i jačanje u savremenom društvu, a kako to izgleda, moći ćemo da vidimo 22. marta u Centru Sava By interpreting the ideas of NoamChomsky, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, one of themost intriguing contemporary choreographers and current artistic director of the Royal Ballet of Flanders, says that he realised that studyingall available information is the onlyway an individual canprotect themselves frompolitical and social propaganda. The 16th edition of the Belgrade Dance Festival will be colouredby “Emotions”. Under that slogan, 16 ballet and contemporary dance companies from11 countries, with 20 choreographic works and 25 solos and duets, will present themselves to the Belgrade public from22nd March to 12th April. Among them will be one of the most intriguing contemporary choreographers and current artistic director of the Royal Ballet of Flanders, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. Prior to the o cial start of the festival, his Eastman troupe fromAntwerp, the city where he was born, is set to perform Fractus V at Belgrade’s Sava Centre. Inspired by the writings of linguist and political philosopher NoamChomsky, the piece deals with the way in which an individual can protect themselves from political and social propaganda, while the author himself also appears on the stage. “This is not the rst time my works will havebeenperformedat theBelgradeDance Festival…I thinkthatGenevaBallet, Introdans, andAakasOdedrabroughtsomeofmyworks inthepast.Andthatwassuccessful, as Iheard. I presented a short creation In 2014 for the 40th anniversary of the Pina Bausch’s Wuppertal Tanztheater.” InFractusVyouaddress the fractures betweenindividualsandsociety, while the work is inspired by the writing of NoamChomsky.HowcomeChomsky? - If I interpretChomsky’s ideas formyself, I gain insight into the fact that the only way an individual is able to protect themselves against political and social propaganda is to study all the information available. Eachday wearebombardedwithnews that attempts to in uenceour thinking. Looking for primarymovementson theedgeof tribal and folklore, this shortperformance raisedthedesire formore. InFractusV, Iwant todeepenquestionsof informationandmanipulation; propaganda versus amore‘objective’and factual approach. I also take, as a starting point, ‘libertyof expression’.Wehave the information, but we don’t know how to use it. Inthispieceyouposealotofquestions that are di cult to answer... -Thequestions that I askmyself:‘It seems certainfreedomsstillneedtobeframed?’‘How neutral can our thinking be?’‘Howmuch do we identify ourselves with the causes of the injustices in society?’ ‘Where does personal responsibilitystartorend?’Chomsky’s fundamental appeal for‘freedomof speech’against political attempts tocontrol andmanipulate themedia resonateswithmyneed, as anartist, for aspace toconstantly reinventmyown identity. Evolution is the combined result of an endless series of minor and major revolutions. Every day is a rite of passage, a point of no return…With nine di erent nationalities and outspoken identities on stage, dialoguewill come to forman intense, dramatic and uent whole. I dance because I don’t want to be de ned. But of course people need you to explain yourself, to say who you are, where you come from and what you do. What I do is try to stay as close as possible to the things I care about, love and nd defensible; the things I want to stand for. This can be a mix of things from di erent cultures that areelementswhichmatter tomeand formpart of who I am.When I worked with Flamenco artist María Pagés, it was not the de nition of Flamenco that I cared about, it was the movement. So when people say “he is mixing cultures”, I say, “no, I am translating”. I’m translating into the eld that is contemporarydance. YouhaveworkedwithBuddhistmonks, a Lebanesesinger, aCorsicanvocal group, while your pieceTeZukAwas inspiredby Japanese manga... But there aresimultaneouslymany things thatmyparents didn’t consider beautiful, butwhich I learned to appreciate. 28 | / TRAŽIMTOPLUDUŠU RAHMANJINOVA ALEKSANDAR SINČUK, PIJANISTA ALEXANDER SINCHUK, PIANIST I SEARCH FOR RACHMANINOFF’SWARMSOUL

Od tada slavnog ruskog kompozitora prati kao zvezdu koju pokušava da dosegne Alexander Sinchuk (30), a pianist born in the Russian town of Nakhodka, was only 12 when he rst came across Sergei Rachmanino ’s creations. He performed his famous Prelude in C-sharp minor. Since then, he has been following the famous Russian composer like a star he’s trying to reach. TheBelgradeaudiencewereable tocon rmthat’s succeeded in that endeavour at Kolarac Endowment Foundation in December, where he performed to commemorate the 145th anniversary of Rachmanino ’s birth. “I’ve always imagined him as a gentle aristocrat and great intellectual. He was very open, moved by the su ering of others and a man with an openn heart. I see him as a member of the older epoch, as a man of the 19th century.” Rachmanino mostly lived in his native Russian Empire in the 20th century, until the October Revolution of 1917, after which he was forced intoexile. He lived inEuropeandAmerica andwitnessed the creative periods of Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov. “His contemporaries left a deep impression on the stylistics of Rahmanino ’smusic. Like everygenius, he changed, nding something close to him in the 20th century and using that. But that main element, the reasonmillions of people around the planet love him, always remained unchanged in his music.” For Sinchuk, Rachmanino was rst and foremost a romanticist who addresses the hearts of listeners through hismusic and remains forever in them. “It’s increasingly di cult to be romantic today. I sometimes believe that the 19th century would have been ideal for me. People were kinder and more sincere, they could talk to each other about things that arenowonlydiscussedbetween the closest lovedones.” Rachmanino ’sworks areon the repertoire for almost all of Sinchuk’s soloperformances around theworld, sohe knows lots of anecdotes that relate to him, but he always notes how much Sergei was loved and simultaneously unaware of his popularity. “In the year 1919, Rachmanino performed ina charity concert at theMetropolitanOpera. Alsoperformingwas renownedviolinist Jascha Heifetz, and the audience sought an encore from him. The concert’s organisers arranged an auction. And as a result Heifetz’s encore was sold for several hundred thousand dollars. Then the organisersauctionedRahmanino ’sPrelude inC-sharpminor asanencore.
