U
takmičara do 23 godine.
nih i veštačkih prepreka, najčešće kamenja, velikog korenja drveća,
zemljanih skakaonica i naglih visinskih promena.
e
Almost nothing is known
about mountain biking in Serbia,
but everyone in that sport knows
about Serbia, thanks to cyclist
Jovana Crnogorac (24). This
young girl is the only participant
from our country in the moun-
tain biking World Cup and last
year she won fifth place in the
Under-23 competitive category.
Mountain biking is an
Olympic sport. It differs from
classic cycling in that races
take place on hilly, mountain-
ous, often undeveloped, terrain.
Competitors in the cross coun-
try discipline, in which Jovana
competes, ride along circular
courses filled with natural and
man-made obstacles, most
commonly rocks, large tree
stumps, earth jumps and sud-
den changes in altitude. This
is a sport in which competitors
ooze adrenaline on descents
and ascents, in all weather con-
ditions, rain or snow, and often
in inaccessible terrain. Jovana
says of herself that at the end of
every race she is “always dirty,
but a fair rider”.
Growing up in a sporty
family in Belgrade, at age six
she began practicing her moth-
er’s sport – swimming, and then
dad’s – triathlon, but eventually
mountain biking found her.
- I was called by the Serbian
Olympic Committee in 2010
to join the cycling team at the
first Youth Olympic Games in
Singapore – says Crnogorac. – I
was very surprised. They had
no mountain bike competitors
and that discipline also had to
be represented in the national
team. There were no girls for
cross country, but they knew
that in the triathlon I ride an
ordinary bike, which is quite
different.
She returned from
Singapore fascinated by this
sport and decided to dedicate
herself to it completely. In just a
year and a half she earned eligi-
bility to compete at the World
and European Championships,
Pošto sam prirodno stidljiva, obično su mi
sitne greške rušile koncentraciju i plasman na
trkama. Prevazišla sam to radom sa psihologom.
Naučila sam da nikada ne odustajem.
e
As I’m
naturally shy, minor mistakes usually destroyed
my concentration and placement at the track. I
overcame that by working with a psychologist. I
learned to never give up.
