Šta vam je na umu
/ What’s on your mind
nje buke“ (bubanj za lutriju, pisaća mašina, parobrod-
ska sirena…), Koncert za reciklirano đubre i orkestar,
Motociklistički koncert... To zaista „nije za svakoga“.
– Spajali smo nespojivo – ističe violinistkinja
Tamara Marinković. – Izazovno je svirati dela koja su
nestandardna za klasični koncertni repertoar. Ja bih
izdvojila „Koncert za vodene udaraljke i orkestar“,
Tana Duna. Voda, neophodna za opstanak, snažnija
od vatre i stena – tako blago zvukom utkana u Vodeni
koncert. Nije li zadivljujuće?
Megalomani će se sigurno zapitati kako se ova-
kvo eksperimentisanje uklapa u kontekst velikih
svetskih orkestara? Kako izgleda susret mladalačke
Beogradske filharmonije sa stranom, iskusnom, za-
htevnom publikom?
manifest, zbog snage, iskrenosti i hrabrosti koju izraža-
i obeležilo ceo jedan vek. Mi, Beogradska filharmonija,
uvek sa posebnim elanom izvodimo tu kompoziciju.
e
”Experienced” requires
little explanation; they know that,
in addition to regular cycles, this
orchestra’s repertoire also has some
unusual, seemingly irrelevant pro-
gramme structures which strike a
balance between attractiveness and
seriousness.
The “On High Heels” cycle,
for example, represented women
conductors. The “Dot-Dot-Dot”
(Pika-Točka-Tačka) cycle connected
the philharmonic orchestras of Bel-
grade, Zagreb and Slovenia. There
were also disco concerts, collabora-
tions with DJs, film scores etc.
However, “Bizarrte” was
probably the most unusual cycle
dedicated to real “adventurers” in
consuming art – including, among
other things, the Concert for a cat
on a piano, a concert enriched with
“machine noise” (tombola drum,
typewriter, steamship siren etc.), the
Concert for recycled rubbish and or-
chestra, the Motorcyclists concert...
That really is “not for everyone”.
- We combined the uncom-
binable – notes violinist Tamara
Marinković. - It is challenging to
play works that are non-standard
for the classical concert repertoire. I
would single out Tan Dun’s “Water
Concerto for Water Percussion and
Orchestra”. Water is essential for
survival, stronger than fire and rocks
– such a mild sound is woven into the
Water concerto. Is it not astonishing?
“Megalomaniacs” will surely
wonder how such an experiment fits
into the context of the world’s great
orchestras. How does it look when
the youthful Belgrade Philharmonic
meets with a foreign, experienced,
demanding audience?
- Just as people like to come
to Serbia because of the directness
and intimate mentality, so foreign
audiences feel those characteristics
in our music-making – says Obo
player Sanja Romić. We experi-
enced spontaneous reactions to
numerous performances, often with
an atmosphere like that of rock
concerts. We received a standing
ovation from a full Carnegie Hall
last year on the first U.S. tour.
If you are not yet “in love” with
this orchestra, perhaps you should
hear “The Rite of Spring” by Igor
Stravinsky, performed by the Bel-
grade Philharmonic Orchestra.
- That’s the composition we
would choose for our manifesto,
due to its strength, sincerity and the
courage that it expresses – the Phil-
harmonics musicians wrote to us as
a shared position in a joint email. –
The unconventionality characteris-
tic of this music was misunderstood
at the time it was created. It is a
masterpiece that changed classical
music and marked an entire centu-
ry. We, the Belgrade Philharmonic,
always perform this composition
with special enthusiasm
„Mi imamo stav”, poručuju filharmoničari u svakoj novoj
promotivnoj kampanji, a to pokazuju i držanjem na
ovoj fotografiji

“We have attitude”, say musicians of
the Belgrade Philharmonic in every new promotional
campaign, and they also show that by their demeanour in
