right beside the sea, about
thirty kilometres north of
Copenhagen. The estate with
a beautiful green park and
perfectly aesthetically ar-
ranged low pavilions, as well
as a collection of outdoor
sculptures, by artists from
Jean Arp, Miro, Alexander
Calder and Henry Moore, to
Richard Serra, was gifted to
the Danes by Knud V. Jensen,
with the idea of the area being
used to exhibit and promote
Danish works of art. However,
alongside Danish artists, the
museum today possesses
works by Anselm Kiefer,
Pablo Picasso, Yves Klein,
Giacometti and many others.
Already the original estate
with its typical Scandinavian
elegant, airy white wooden
villa from 1855, prior to
Jensen buying it, was called
Louisiana because the owner
had had three wives who are
all called Louise. Also very
popular are the museum’s
informal restaurant and café
on a rise overlooking the sea,
with a view towards Sweden
on the other side of the strait.
4. KRONBORG CASTLE
After a visit to Louisiana,
you should certainly continue
a further twenty kilometres
north to the Renaissance castle
and stronghold of Kronborg,
in the town of Helsingør,
which Shakespeare renamed
Elsinore in Hamlet of Elsinore.
The castle and fortification,
with moats between the walls,
is protected as a UNESCO
World Cultural Heritage Site
and is simply magnificent,
located on the very edge of the
sea. The play Hamlet has been
performed here occasionally
since the 200
th
anniversary of
Shakespeare’s death, with the
most recent English theatre
great to star as Hamlet being
Jude Law. Moreover, the new
Kulturhavn Kronborg culture
centre also recently opened
alongside the castle, as well
as a new scene with several
stages and the Danish mari-
time museum, ensuring the
whole area around the castle
is now reserved exclusively
for culture, without a trace of
the former industrial past in
the vicinity of the castle. This
is an excellent example of the
Danes successfully connecting
culture and ‘designer tourism’
at a high level.
5. HOTEL D’ANGLETER
When the
Guardian
inter-
viewed Rene Redzepi in 2010
and asked him to reveal his
own Copenhagen, he said that
he had only one criticism of
the hometown he is otherwise
proud of: at that moment it
did not have good hotels.
That happened because at
that time the legendary hotel
D’Angleter
, one of the world’s
first deluxe hotels, with a his-
tory dating back to 1755, was
closed for works to completely
transformation the hotel,
which is today still worthy of
its nickname “the white Lady
on the royal square”.
The hotel’s neoclassi-
cal building, with its special
royal entrance for ceremonial
events under the auspices
of the royal house, is located
on the most exclusive square
next to the old building of the
Royal Theatre. Today, follow-
ing thorough reconstruction,
it once again represents the
perfect blend of tradition and
modern comfort. The interi-
or’s reconstruction was led by
famous Danish design studio
Space Copenhagen, which
is also responsible for the
interior of Noma restaurant,
the headquarters of furniture
designer Fritz Hansen, the
Georg Jensen shop and some
new parts of the Louisiana
museum.
This hotel has witnessed
the city’s most important his-
torical events. It has always
been a meeting place for indi-
viduals woven into the history
of Copenhagen and it should
also be visited as a cultural as-
set of the city. Or you should at
least check out the lively urban
scene in the main town café
and Marshal restaurant (one
of 14 restaurants in this city to
hold a Michelin Star).

skim velikanima pozornice tu je
Hamleta glumio Džud Lo. No,
uz dvorac je nedavno otvoren i
novi kulturni centar Kulturhavn
Kronborg, nova scena s nekoliko pozornica i Danskim pomorskim
muzejom pa je sad čitavo područje oko dvorca rezervisano isklju-
čivo za kulturu, bez traga nekadašnje industrijske prošlosti u blizni
dvorca. Izvanredan primer uspešnog danskog povezivanja kulture
i ‘dizajnerskog turizma’ na visokom nivou.
5. HOTEL D’ANGLETER
Kad je
Gardijan
Neoklasicistička zgrada hotela s posebnim, kraljevskim ulazom
za svečanosti pod pokroviteljstvom kraljevske kuće, nalazi se na
najotmenijem trgu uz staru zgradu kraljevskog pozorišta. Danas,
posle temeljne rekonstrukcije, ponovo je savršeni spoj tradicije i
savremene udobnosti.
urbanu scenu u glavnoj gradskoj kafani i restoranu Maršal (jedan
od 14 restorana ovog grada s Mišlenovom zvezdicom).
