NE PROPUSTITE U KOPENHAGENU
NOT TO BE MISSED IN COPENHAGEN

Nothing is rotten in the
state of Denmark: for several
years in a row the Danes have
described themselves as the
happiest people in the world.
Unusual, if we consider that
half of their year is cold and
rainy, they pay very high taxes,
among the highest in the world,
the food is very expensive, mo-
tor fuel costs almost two euros
per litre, cafés are even more
expensive etc.
So why are they so happy?
Their expensive state offers
them a lot: excellent health
protection, incredible educa-
tion conditions (the state pays
for each student to study), so-
cial protection, long maternity
leave etc.
For a general sense of sat-
isfaction with one’s life (claims
Jerome Kagan, a renowned
professor of psychology from
Harvard) it is not crucial to
have a lot of money, or even
personal freedom or friends,
as the media often explain
superficially, but what is cru-
cial is a deep belief in several
important, unchanging ethical
principles.
The Danes believe most
deeply that the most important
thing in everything they do is
quality, thoughtfulness, and not an ounce of external illusion, and
they work calmly in the belief that quality will always prove victori-
ous in the end, in the restaurant business, in design, in life...
How can we feel that on the streets of Copenhagen? What can
that city teach us? Why is it worth paying a visit to Copenhagen,
one of the most expensive cities in the world?
1. COPENHAGEN IS THE
GREENEST CITY IN EUROPE
The whole of Scandinavia is environmentally conscious, Oslo
and Stockholm are also green cities, but Copenhagen was last year
declared by the European Union as the “green metropolis of the
EU”. This is not just about the size of green areas and the beauty of
several parks in the city centre, but rather the quality of urban plan-
ning: the objective has been achieved whereby every resident of
this city lives a maximum of 350 metres away from the city’s excel-
lent and orderly public transport network (metro, buses and
