clusive prizes in competitions.
Located right below is the
Artists’ Alley, a massive space where
artists and writers can showcase their
work, interact with fans, and even make some
quick money from commissions. The booth of
Kieron Gillen, an acclaimed writer of popular he-
roes like the X-Men, Iron Man and Thor, was per-
petually beset by fans, with the queue continuing
well into the hallway beyond.
On the lowest floor is perhaps the biggest draw:
the conference halls. There visitors can attend ex-
clusive panel discussions, hear announcements
about upcoming projects, watch never-before-seen
footage and ask questions to executives and cre-
ators. The New York Comic Con is an ode to pop-
ular culture. If you’re looking for auteur films or in-
die bands, you’re out of luck. But if you’re okay with
indulging in some mass-produced entertainment,
there’s plenty to love. The four-day event is like an
all-ages Disneyland, where everyone can find some-
thing to enjoy, regardless of their age, background
or interests.
