Spanish Steps
A favourite place for visitors to Rome to take a respite from
their tour, the Spanish Steps (pictured), have been closed for
renovations until spring 2016. These steps, where Audrey
Hepburn and Gregory Peck enjoyed ice cream in the film
“Roman Holiday” way back in 1953, have been visited by
hundreds of millions of tourists since then, who have left their
mark. In addition to tourists, the steps have also given way to
plants: cracks have appeared from invasive species seeking
their way to the surface. However, part of the steps will be
opened in December for tourists, to mark the occasion of the
extraordinary Holy Year of 2016, as proclaimed by the Vatican.
Prag
650 godina sata
Astronomski sat u Pragu (na
fotografiji), jedna od najpozna-
tijih turističkih atrakcija češke
prestonice, navršio je u oktobru
650 godina neprekidnog rada.
Većina originalnih delova još
uvek se nalazi u mehanizmu koji
radi. To je najstariji funkcionalni
javni sat na svetu. Legenda kaže
da će građani Praga da pate ako
se sat zapusti. Jedini trenutak u
kome sat nije radio bio je 1945.
godine kada su ga nacisti ošteti-
li. Prekid je trajao tri godine, dok
sat nije popravljen.

650-year-old clock
The Prague astronomical clock
(pictured), one of the most
popular tourist attractions in
the Czech capital, marked 650
years of continuous operations
in October. Most of the original
parts are still located in the wor-
king mechanism. It is the world’s
oldest functional public clock.
Legend has it that the citizens
of Prague will suffer if the clock
stops working. The only point
when the clock did not work was
in 1945, when it was vandalised
by Nazis. The interruption lasted
for three years, until the clock
was repaired.
