ister Aleksandar Vučić and
Chairman of the Air Serbia Su-
pervisory Board, Belgrade May-
or Siniša Mali.
“You represent Serbia in the
best possible way and in just a
year, from a company that was
facing bankruptcy, you have
created an enterprise for all the
citizens of Serbia to be proud
of,” said Prime Minister Vučić,
addressing the company’s man-
agers and employees at the cer-
emony.
Vučić noted that, thanks to
the good work of Air Serbia, the
value of the Belgrade Airport
has doubled.
Air Serbia CEO Dane
Kondić said that the company
is on track to becoming profit-
able by the end of the year.
“The results of operations
for the third quarter are impres-
sive and in August we achieved
record results to date,” said
Kondić, adding: “we are proud
of the employees of Air Ser-
bia and the results they have
achieved as a team. The reac-
tions of passengers are very
positive. During the first year
we have introduced significant
improvements, but it is neces-
sary to continue at the same
pace, which will be even hard-
er because the expectations are
now even greater.”
Siniša Mali said that “the
brand of Serbia is spread-
ing throughout Europe and is
linked to a good product, ser-
vice and security,” adding, “Jat
Airways had losses of 73 mil-
lion euros last year, while Air
Serbia is on track to recording a
profit this year – thereby remov-
ing the burden that had previ-
ously fallen on the government
and citizens. If we take into ac-
count the direct and indirect ef-
fects of Air Serbia’s operations
for our economy, the value of
this airline will be measured in
the billions of dollars.”
Supervisory Board Chair-
man Mali said that Belgrade
has recorded an increase in
tourism revenue thanks to the
successful work of Air Serbia,
with the number of overnight
stays having increased, as well
as tourist tax revenue. He as-
sessed that the establishing of
direct flights to Canada and the
U.S. would improve the environ-
ment for investment, not only
in Belgrade but also elsewhere
in Serbia.
Speaking via video link
from Abu Dhabi, James Ho-
gan, President and CEO of Eti-
had Airways, congratulated Air
Serbia on its success and said
that the Serbian national carrier
is “on the road to profitability,
and towards becoming a great
airline”.
Confirming Etihad’s long-
term support for Air Serbia, Ho-
gan said: “We show our com-
mitment to Air Serbia through
our investments, programmes
for developing talent, exchang-
es of experience, knowledge ad-
vancement and employment.
We are pleased to be able to
contribute to the development
of a strong Air Serbia”.
Today Air Serbia flies to 39
destinations in 29 countries and
offers flights to an additional 20
destinations worldwide through
its code-share partnerships with
leading airlines.
To commemorate its
first birthday, Air Serbia has
launched a unique promotional
campaign that will last until the
end of November.
