caverns, on fast-flowing waters and
in populated areas.
These powerful guys earned
special recognition for 2014 as
part of the ”Noblest Achievement
of the Year” campaign, which has
rewarded the noblest individuals
and organizations in Serbia for
more than 50 years. They won also
won the ”My Serbia” gold medal
for the best social responsibility
activity in 2014.
Despite being an organiza-
tion of national importance, its
financing is left to its members,
and rescue equipment is very ex-
pensive and has a short lifespan.
Fortunately, the private sector is
aware of the importance of the
Mountain Rescue Service and valu-
able company donations ensure
the continued functioning of these
lifesavers.
Members of the service take
care of over a thousand injured
people every year, carrying out
around 50 rescue interventions
and operations. So, who are these
people who voluntarily dedicate a
large portion of their time and ex-
pert knowledge to helping others?
On the whole, they are experienced
hikers, mountaineers, alpinists,
sports climbers, potholers, divers,
skiers and paragliding experts.
Through continuous training, new
lovers of nature are inspired to join
this noble profession.
The Mountain Rescue Service
of Serbia cooperates continuously
with foreign rescue services, ex-
changing experiences, organizing
joint training sessions and opera-
tions, using new security and res-
cue equipment.
They are dubbed ”moun-
tain guardian angels”. They see
themselves as members of an elite
organization that is at the ready
24-hours-a-day, 365-days-a-year,
always prepared to selflessly pro-
vide assistance to all those most in
need. ”You are not alone”, rescuers
say to the increasing number of
tourists who explore Serbia’s most
beautiful, and often most inacces-
sible, locations.

Gorska služba spasavanja
Srbije permanentno sarađuje sa
inostranim spasilačkim služba-
ma. Razmenjuju se iskustva,
organizuju zajednički treninzi i
operacije, koristi nova bezbed-
nosna i spasilačka oprema.
Zovu ih „planinski anđeli
čuvari“. Oni sebe doživljavaju
kao članove elitne organizacije
koja je u pripravnosti 24 časa,
365 dana u godini, spremna da
nesebično pruži pomoć svima
kojima je najpotrebnija. „Niste
sami“, poručuju spasioci sve
brojnijim turistima koji Srbiju
istražuju na njenim najlepšim,
često nepristupačnim mesti-
ma.
