Pastiri izlaze na planinu i svojim tono-
vima najavljuju početak novog produktivnog ciklusa.

The rikalo, bucium, or shepherd’s horn, is a long
wind instrument that is made each spring by shepherds in
the Homolje Mountains of eastern Serbia, using the bark of
linden, willow or cherry trees, when the wood is rich in sap
and the bark can be removed easily. Lonely shepherds used
the instrument in ancient times to communicate over distant
hillswith acoustic signals.
In folk tradition, the rikalo, which produces a fanfare sound,
is used to greet the arrival of spring, when all forms of life
flourish. Shepherds head out onto the mountain and produce
their tones to announce the start of a new productive cycle.
