The competitive film programme culminates on the final evening with a ceremony to present awards for the best film overall (Golden Imagination) and the best male and female roles (Golden Interpretation). A jury of youngsters, comprising high school pupils from Bajina Bašta, also awards its own prize for the best film, while their participation in the programme encourages the critical stance of these young people, who accept their positionwith great responsibility.This year alsomarks theBaštaFest team’s establishingof theBalkanShortFilm Network, together with festivals from Montenegro (Ulcinj’s Seanema Film Festival) and North Macedonia (Drim Short Film Festival), which deals with the educating of young filmmakers and promotions of short films. Bašta Fest is crucial to the decentralisation of culture, given that it has directed a diverse film, music and educational programme, aswell as an accompanying programme, to this beautiful region.The initial idea of its inceptionwas toenticeasmany visitors as possible toexperience the incrediblenatureofBajinaBaštaand the surrounding area, while the organisers are striving to make Bašta Fest anoasis of culture that primarilypromotes young local and international authors, placing an emphasis on short films with authentic acting achievements. The depths of Lake Perućac While the audience recovers from the previous evening and charges its batteries for the next, with the heat of summer sweltering to the max, Bašta Fest provides excellent opportunities for relaxation and refreshment, whether daytrips at high altitude or splashing in waters surrounded by stunning nature. Festival guests have the opportunity to start their day with a boat ride through the Lake Perućac canyon, where you can take in the natural beauty and the plant and animal habitats of the Tara National Park, theconfluenceof the riversŽepaand Drina, and the narrow part of the canyon near the Stari Brod campsite, with its smaller streams and brooks, andmedieval fortifications. And if you’d “only” like to bathe a little, there’s an arranged beach that has pontoonswith swimming pools for children and a fenced off bathing area. Zaovine on the hilltop Lake Zaovine stands among beautiful conifers on Tara mountain at an elevation of 892 metres above sea level. Formed on the river Rzav and adorned with numerous coves, it has turquoise waters and dense pine forests along its shores. This lake is also suitable for swimming, while there’s nothing but nature along its shores. In the vicinity of the embankment dam is also the spot where Josif Pančić discovered the Serbian spruce, but also the site of theGradmedieval fortress. If you don’t fancy taking a dip here, you’ll find ample enjoyment in the beautiful views, in surroundings that are home to numerous protected animal and plant species. The River Drina The River Drina forms a natural border between Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, and perhaps its most beautiful stretch is located in the vicinity of Bajina Bašta, below Taramountain. Apart fromenjoying the views offered fromthe canyons, a riversidepicnic is always anoption. The famousDrina river house, a cabin on a rock in themiddle of the river, isalsonearBajinaBaštaandrepresentsoneof thesymbolsof thetown.
