76 | / And Pegah has also nurtured her own dual nature since an early age. With origins in a Muslim family, she also attended a Catholic school and grew up in two completely different worlds. “I’m glad that women are increasingly valued in all fields. There are ever more initiatives for them to realise their dreams. But even if there was no such incentives, we should all strive for what we want out of life,” she insists. That’s how she chased her own dreams, which were initially somewhat different than they are today – as an actress. She then worked on film sets, music videos, short films... Her first creations link her to Australia, which marked her upbringing and all further achievements. And when she later returned to Iran as a recognised filmmaker, everything that she saw around her inevitably influenced her work, leading to her becoming increasingly dedicated to social issues. Her thirst for new ideas and inspiration led her around the world, all the way to Dubai, where – as she says – she gained breadth and an opportunity to grow and flourish. “I first thought I’d come to another planet that people are only just starting to populate. And then, throughout all the time that I’ve live there, Dubai has developed incredibly. And although I miss Australia’s nature, here I have everything I need,” she says, adding that there she can feel in the air that something which attracts people from all meridians, whether they come as tourists or opt to stay. She says that she’s happy because the pursuit of progress is at the core of this enticing country. This is something that she shares with Dubai. That’s why she has plenty of plans, firstly to continue creating films, but also to win awards, as that represents a sign that her message has made it out into the world. Her film“Members of the Resistance”made it into official selections and won in various film festivals and her creation “I Am Yazidi” was made in co-production with the BBC. “My Film Works”, the online platform for independent filmmakers, currently has over a thousand titles from 45 countries in 30 languages. This Pegah Ghaemi project is actually a combination of “LinkedIn” and “Vimeo”, and in one place brings together short films, documentaries, professionally produced films and music videos. I ADORE BELGRADE Pegah Ghaemi visited Serbia for the rst time last year, and her impressions were excellent. “I adore Belgrade! I liked everything... It seems to me that the culture is very similar to the Persian one, which marked my childhood. The people, food and atmosphere are all very enticing. And although there have been many painful historical events here, the people move forward, and smile.” Malo šta je u detinjstvu moglo da je zadivi, pa je zavirila u svet mašte There wasn’t much that could thrill her in her childhood, so she turned to the world of fantasy
