Izgoreli su svi inventari i katalozi Narodne biblioteke. Na mestu srušene biblioteke organizuju se književne večeri. KAFANA ZNAK PITANJA Kafana Znakpitanja jedna jeod najstarijih kuća u Beogradu i najstarijabeogradskakafanakoja i danas radi. Enterijer, drveni stolovi, tronošci, i tradicionalni specijaliteti vraćaju goste u prošla vremena kada je Kosančićev venac bio prvi urbanizovani deo grada. Kafana je tipičanprimergradskekućebalkanskog tipa s početka 19. veka. Čest posetilac kafane bio je i Vuk Stefanović Karadžić, a u njoj se odvijao i kulturni i javni život. FORMERNATIONAL LIBRARY The National Library of Serbia once stood at the heart of Kosančićev Venac, until it was razed to the groundduring aGermanbombing raid of 6th April, 1941. Its rich literary fund burned for days. The Nazis targeted the building with incendiarybombs, turningtheNational Library into thebiggest furnace of books. The items destroyed included 500,000 volumes, 1,424 Cyrillic manuscripts and charters dating fromthe 12th to the 17th centuries, a cartography andgraphics collection, the complete personal collections of VukKaradžićandĐuraDaničić, acollection of Ottoman documents on Serbia and the entire body of correspondences of significant figures from the cultural and political history of Serbia and Yugoslavia.
