Above the balcony is a circular section with red and white tiles, geometric ornamentation that’s a recognisable element of Serbo-Byzantine architecture, andtheheadof awomanwhose hair extends to form a floral ornament, which was a detail borrowed fromtheArtNouveau style thatwas then popular in Europe. The house, which was a place for local and foreignscientists togather, but alsoMikaAlas’s relatives, still stands on the same spot. With its new, strikingly colouredfaçade, ithasbeenclassified as a cultural monument since 1966.
