Rim

Proterani

rimski brojevi

Rim se odriče rimskih brojeva! Nakon

što se antički numerički sistem održao

nekoliko hiljada godina u zvaničnoj

upotrebi, gradske vlasti su odlučile da

uklone rimske brojeve sa uličnih natpi-

sa, ličnih karata i iz zvaničnih dokume-

nata, jer su suviše komplikovani. Tabla

sa nazivom ulice Vitorija Emanuela

II – „Corso Vittorio Emanuele II“ (na

fotografiji), biće zamenjena novom s

natpisom: „Corso Vittorio Emanuele

Secondo“. Cilj je da se numerički sistem

Italije uskladi s međunarodnim stan-

dardima. Odluka je izazvala rasprave,

a neki je nazivaju „kulturnim samoubi-

stvom“.

Rome

Roman

numerals expelled

Rome has turned its back on Roman

numerals! After maintaining the ancient

numerical system in official use for sev-

eral thousand years, the city authorities

have decided to remove Roman numer-

als from street signs, ID cards and of-

ficial documents, adjudging them to be

too complicated. The sign for the street

Corso Vittorio Emanuele II (pictured),

is to be replaced with a new inscrip-

tion reading Corso Vittorio Emanuele

Secondo. The aim is to harmonise Italy’s

numerical system with international

standards. The decision sparked debate,

with some dubbing it “cultural suicide”.

Abu Dabi

Rast ekonomije

Bruto domaći proizvod (GDP) Abu Dabija,

emirata u UAE porastao je prošle godine

za 2,2 odsto, na 260 milijardi dolara, bez

obzira na veliki pad cena nafte na svetskom

tržištu, objavio je Statistički centar emirata.

Abu Dabi je osmi po veličini proizvođač

nafte na svetu. U BDP emirata proizvodnja

nafte učestvuje sa 50 odsto, a ostatak druge

privredne grane, pre svega građevinarstvo

sa oko 10 odsto (na snimku).

Abu Dhabi

Economic

growth

The gross domestic product (GDP) of UAE

emirate Abu Dhabi grew by 2.2 per cent

last year, reaching $260 billion, despite a

huge drop in oil prices on the world market,

announced the statistics centre of this emir-

ate. Abu Dhabi is the world’s eighth-largest

oil producer. Oil production accounts for

50 per cent of the GDP of this emirate, with

the remainder coming from other indus-

trial branches, most notably construction

(pictured), which accounts for about 10 per

cent.

Stokholm

Dan bez automobila

Glavni grad Švedske zabraniće na jedan dan, 19. septembra, upotrebu motornih vozila

u centru grada. Cilj je da se promovišu alternativna sredstva transporta. Inicijativa je

deo „Evropske nedelje mobilnosti“ (European mobility week), projekta Evropske komi-

sije koji promoviše održivi transport. Više od 200 gradova učestvovaće u ovogodišnjoj

akciji, a pored Stokholma (na snimku) još dva glavna grada – Budimpešta i Lisabon.

e

Stockholm

Car Free Day

The Swedish capital is to ban the use of motor vehicles in the city centre for one

day, on 19th September. The aim is to promote alternative means of transport. The

initiative is part of “European Mobility Week”, a European Commission project

that promotes sustainable transport. More than 200 cities will participate in this

year’s campaign and, in addition to Stockholm (pictured), there will be two other

capital cities – Budapest and Lisbon.
