Although it may have a slightly different look, there will still be the famous red carpet, strutted by celebrities in phenomenal fashion. So, in the build-up to the big event, here are the details that we know so far... What is the Met Gala? TheMet Ball, orMet Gala, is the fashion equivalent of the Oscars. It is the evening when designers, models and Hollywood stars gather to celebrate and raise funds for the new exhibition of the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Attendees ordinarily dress according to a given theme, some of which over previous years have included camp, religion, punk... When and where? This year's gala will be held on 13th September as an intimate celebration at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. What’s the theme? The 2021 gala is centredon the celebrating of American fashion. Andrew Bolton, head curator of the Costume Institute, believes it is time to re-examine American identity and fashion, particularly given that they’ve changed in recent years. “I've been really impressed by American designers' responses to the social and political climate, particularly around issues of body inclusivity and gender fluidity, and I'm just finding their work very, very self-reflective,” he told Vogue. “I really do believe that American fashion is undergoing a Renaissance. I think young designers in particular are at the vanguard of discussions about diversity and inclusion, as well as sustainability...” How will the exhibition look?
