ONWORLDENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DAY, WHICH IS THIS year being held under the theme “Our planet, our health”, global attention will be focused on urgent action required tomaintain the health of the people and planet Earth. First officially held on 26th September 2011, it was launched at the initiative of theCouncil of the International Federationof Environmental Health (IFEH) – an organisation that was established in 1986 and is headquartered in London. The aim was, and remains, to disseminate knowledge about the importance of the environment and to promote cooperation between countries to improve the environmental situation around the planet. The IFEH Council declared at its 2011meeting in Indonesia that “26th September 2011 be deemed the foundational World Environmental Health Day”. Since then, that date has been earmarked each year with a particular theme focusing on an important environmental health issue. Climate change has been described as the greatest threat to global health in the 21st century, with high incidences of climate-related health hazards and deaths, as well as the increasing spread of diseases like malaria, dengue fever and heat stress. There is expected to be a rise in the number of people migrating due to the adverse impacts of climate change and environmental degradation, with sub-Saharan Africa, East Asia, the Pacific region and South Asia expected to be particularly hard hit if no action is taken. Svetski dan zdravlja životne sredine svake godine se obeležava kako bi se podigla svest o štetnim uticajima ekoloških problema na zdravlje ljudi World Environmental Health Day is commemorated every year in an effort to raise awareness of the detrimental impacts of environmental concerns on human health
