50 | Dizajn » Design KULTURA / CULTURE MALIKA FAVRE, ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST SIGNIFICANT CONTEMPORARY ILLUSTRATORS, is a guest of Design Week Novi Sad, which runs until 7th October at the city’s Spens sports and business centre andwill provide the audience with the opportunity to hear her lecture entitled “Me and You and Everyone We Know”. This French artist, who shifts the boundaries of contemporary illustration, arrives in Serbia from Barcelona, where she’s spent the last few years working and finding inspiration. Oftendescribed as ‘Pop Art meets Op Art’, Malika’s bold, minimalist style has become synonymous with the reinterpreting of the everyday and the ordinary. “The first conference I ever participated inwas actually inBelgrade, in 2009, at Belgrade DesignWeek, while I was still working for London’s Airside studio.That’s why I’m very excited that I’m returning to get to know another city in Serbia. For DesignWeekNovi Sad, I’m traversingmy career as an illustrator through the prismof the incredible people I’vemet. I believe that interpersonal relationships are themost important factor for a good career, and this lecture is meant to be an homage to everyone who helped me on that creative journey”, says Malika, who leads us – from family members to lifelong friends and chance encounters – on a creative journey that’s beendeeplynurtured DES I GN WE E K Malika Favre inNovi Sad If you’ve seen an iPad advertisement or come across an issue of the New Yorker recently, it’s highly likely that you’ve already encountered the work of this famous illustrator more than 300 designers and artists whowill participate in the creation of content. It will thus present themost significant authorial phenomena in the domains of graphic design, product design, photography and fashion. Over an area exceeding 7,500 square metres, attendees will have opportunities to enjoy numerous exhibitions, spatial installations, street art works, filmandmusic programmes, aswell as a children’s programme. Design Week Novi Sad represents the programme of theKaleidoscope of Culture applied arts week and is being implemented in cooperation with the Novi Sad 2022 European Capital of Culture project. by relationships in which nothing is mere coincidence. Malika’s recognisable style of richly coloured illustrations has also attracted clients likeTheNewYorker, Montreux Jazz, Apple and Penguin Books, among many others. “I’m currently redesigning the entire family of covers of literary classics for American publisher Barnes & Noble. This project will last four years and will reinvigorate around 50 classics. I’ve been waiting for just such a project for a while and I’m truly excited that I will have my own personal library once it’s done,” says Malika.
