Informally known as a holiday of books, the Book Fair welcomes the most important local writers and numerous foreign writers and publishers each year, who present their existing and current works. A rich ancillary programme represents an important characteristic of the Book Fair. Through numerous promotions, presentations, lectures, roundtables and discussions, participants present members of the professional and general public with numerous important literary, publishing and cultural topics. The International Belgrade Book Fair is one of the region’s oldest andmost important literary events. Founded in 1955, based on the model of the Frankfurt Book Fair, our Belgrade event very quickly closed the gap on its role model and has managed to remain the most important such event in the Balkans for decades. It has been spiced up nicely in recent years with the inclusion of guest of honour countries, which present their national literature over a large area. All Serbian publishers, as well as the region’smost reputable publishers, present their annual publishing production at the Fair.
