Herceg Novi » Herceg Novi| 37 Arhijerejski namesnik Radomir Nikčević, koji je bio glavni pokretač obnove Njegoševe škole deputy archbishop Radomir Nikčević, who has been the main driver of the restoration of Njegoš’s school ni pri Sabornoj crkvi Svetog Spasa u Herceg Novom, gradu koji je njegovu prvu učionicu nedavno pretvorio u muzej. – Učio je matematiku, italijanski, ono što je bilo to acquiring his first official education at the age of 12 at the Church of theHoly Saviour inHercegNovi, a city that recently converted his first classroom into amuseum. Itwas inthat 1825 that thenephewofMetropolitan Petar I Petrović arrived in the Herceg Novi neighbourhood of Topla to study and prepare for his succession. His uncle believed that young Rade [Njegoš was born Radivoje “Rade” Petrović] was “a man of work and reason” and that he couldbe a dignified successor andbishop. And we’ve come to feel part of those beginnings… We’re awaited in front of the Church of the Holy Saviour by the elder of the temple, protoiereus Radomir Nikčević, who was the main driving force behind the restoration of Njegoš’s school, with altruistic support fromthe current city administration. He speaks proudly about the glorious times that spawned such a poet and bishop asNjegoš, but also about the timeswhenhe was just a boy, but already such a striking figure that all heads turned to see him. Destined to become great… “Both in spirit and growth he was already formed as a man, he was almost twometres tall even then, and the testimony of his school bench friend describes him as having sharp features, being stout, walking slowly with a broad stride, and that people turned their heads to see him because he was an unusual phenomenon - so young, yet so huge, dressed in a Montenegrin costume from Cetinje,” says Father Nikčević. The school where he spent two years was reconstructed on the basis of how it looked during Njegoš’s time, when he completed his basic schooling under the watchful eye of the elder of the Church of the Holy Saviour and the school’s administrator, Savina Monastery’s hieromonk Josif Tropović. He was an educated man of good repute who is today best known as being the first significant teacher of the young Njegoš. The
