Hestia, the Belgrade gallery and art residence, is currently hosting an exhibition of paintings by French artist Clément Bedel, entitled Radiant as the End of the World, which will remain on show until 26th February. The exhibition comprises paintings created using the oil on canvas technique, in varying formats, with very intense colouring. The series of paintings exhibited serve to question the logical basis of the environmental crisis, which is saturated in melancholy and the negativity of coexistence, and which offers evolution into something playful, anarchic and unpretentiously shrewd. Bedel was born in Strasbourg and arrives in Belgrade from the French city of Mulhouse. He completed his master’s studies at the Nancy National School of Art and Design, Ecole Nationale Superieure d’Art de Nancy, in 2017. Clément actually lived and worked in Belgrade from 2016 to 2020. During his time in Serbia, he also developed a strong attachment to the aesthetics and essence of brutalist architecture. He engages almost exclusively in painting, assembling hybrid elements in an attempt to touch that timeless instant of serenity, fullness and silence. Predstavu režira Ivica Buljan, a igraju Aleksandar Jovanović, Bojana Stojković, VesnaČipčić, Iva Ilinčić, Mirjana Karanović i mnogi drugi. Zbog najboljeg u nama najviše semoramo pravdati. Možda su ipak vremena idiotska“… THEATRE: The Idiot The BelgradeDrama Theatre’s Oliver and RadaMarkovićGreat Stage is scheduled to host the premiere performance of Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky’s famous work The Idiot on 20th February. Directed by Ivica Buljan, the BDP play features Aleksandar Jovanović, Bojana Stojković, VesnaČipčić, Iva Ilinčić, Mirjana Karanović et al. As Vladimir Tabašević writes, “Themodernity that we live in cries out for the PrinceMyshkin of our times. What kind of fatewould today await that naïve, sincere do-gooder?What high circles would he horrifywith his thoughtless cordiality? His ideal goodness is just cruelty for his social and emotional being. It was with an ironic twist that Dostoevsky called hismost beautiful literary character an idiot, while today such ironic distancing is impossible: an ideally goodman in today’s world really is an idiot, a small-minded person to be pitied. He is someonewhowould be despised for daring, in plain sight of all, to exercise virtues that society has neglected, virtues which that same society declaratively supports and lauds. Literal and consistent, PrinceMyshkin is an idiot because he can’t help but be honest, soulful and gentle. It ismostly because of the best in us that we have to justify ourselves. Perhaps these times are idiotic after all” … U Beogradskomdramskom pozorištu premijera je zakazana za 20. februar/ The Belgrade Drama Theatre is scheduled to host the premiere on 20th February U trendingu / trending Radiant as the end of the world EXH I B I T I ON
