Zgrada muzeja je dvospratna palata građena u akademskom stilu po projektu Stefana Belića. Unjoj se čuva kolekcija od oko 40.000 predmeta – zlatnog i drugog nakita, stilskog, rezbarenognameštaja, kostima, fotografija, keramike, porcelana, stakla, starih rukopisa i retkih štapanihknjiga, ikona... Starogrčkinovac iz 4. veka p.n.e. predstavlja najstariji artefakt umuzejskomposedu. Utokuje izložba„Nastaklenom putu: Umetnost stakla i reprezentacija u Srbiji 1850–1950“ autorke Biljane Crvenković, višeg kustosa Muzejaprimenjeneumetnosti.Ona u fokus stavlja proizvodnju i upotrebu stakla tokom jednog veka, značajnogzamodernizacijudržave. – Upotrebno staklo bilo je prisutnougrađanskoj svakodneviciSrba jošod18veka. Jovanović resided in London, Paris andMunich, only to return toVienna towards the end of his life, while he showed his devotion to his own nation by gifting it “everything that was worth keeping” from his paintingaccessories and tools. It is thanks to this that the central room of the Museumis today a replica of his studio, whileother spaces aredecorated with Paja’s paintings and furniture. Nikola TeslaMuseum Tesla'sname is knowntheworld over, so forhis sake it isn’t difficult to make thewalk to51Krunska Street. Nestled among the villas of Vračar thatdatebacktothe interwarperiod, this institutionthat awaits visitors is housed in a building that’s amasterpiece of architect Dragiša Brašovan. Visitors here are provided with an opportunity to overview the life of Tesla as an individual, through photographs from his youth, personal documents, andpicturesofhisbirthplace in the Like region’s village of Smiljan.The exhibitionalso includes Tesla’shat, caneandtravelbag, aswell as various measuring instruments and numerous items from the laboratorieswherehe researchedaround the clock. “Aspecial place in theMuseum is occupied by the memorial room, which houses the urn containing Tesla’s ashes,” says museum curator Milica Kesler. Making a visit here special is the opportunity to holdaneonlampinyourhand,which lights up when the big Tesla transformer is switched on. Providing an evengreater shock is the “lightning” produced by his small transformer. Museumof AppliedArt With the presentation ‘On the GlassRoad’, theMuseumofApplied Art, at 18 Vuka Karadžića Street, is commemorating its 72 years of existence, while at the same time joining celebrations marking the International Year of Glass. The building of themuseumisa two-storeypalace that was built in the academic style, according to thedesignof StefanBelić. It houses a collection of around 40,000items, includinggoldandother jewellery, stylishandhand-carved furniture, costumes, applied photographs, ceramics, porcelain, glass, old handwritten manuscripts and rare books, icons and much more. The oldest artefacts held by the museum are ancient Greek coins dating back to the 4th century BC. The current exhibition, On the Glass Road: Glass Art and Representation in Serbia (1850-1950), is authored by Biljana Crvenković, senior curator of theMuseumofApplied Arts. It places a focus on the production anduse of glass over the course of a century that was significant as itmarked the country’smodernisation. “Usableglasswaspresent in the everyday life of Serbs from as far back as the 18th century. Having Czechcrystalwasamatterofprestige among themore “prominent” houses, says the exhibition’s author. Providing the crowning glory of the exhibition are items that formed part of the court cultureof theObrenović and Karađorđević dynasties, as well as items that were used to serve distinguished guests under the protocol service of lifelong president Tito. Museumof Contemporary Art If you head in the direction of NewBelgrade, you simplymust visit and tour theMuseumof Contemporary Art. The building itself has reason to be proud, because apart from its exceptional position – opposite the Belgrade Fortress, on the left bank of the Sava at its confluence with the Danube – visitors are also amazed by its crystallographic structure. The Museum of Contemporary Art was fully renovated in 2017 and reopened with Marina Abramović’s exhibitionTheCleaner, while it nowglistens in all its simple splendour.Themuseumis currently offering the solo exhibitionUnreliable Narrator, which presents works byMrđanBajić, one of Serbia’smost famous sculptors.
