Ali nakon svog poslednjeg albuma Live At The Royal Albert Hall , koji je osvojio Gremi, bend radi sve osim toga, pa tako u septembru izlazi njihov 14. album Empire Central bezrezervno ljubavno pismoDalasu, mestu gde je sve počelo 2004. godine. U susret koncertu u Beogradu u organizaciji Musicology Sessions, razgovarali smo sa basistom i osnivačem benda Majklom Ligom. Šta beogradska publika može da očekuje na koncertu? – Sviraćemo potpuno nov set pesama sa novog albuma Empire Central . Možda cemo ubaciti nekoliko starijih pesama, ali velika vecinamaterijala ce biti potpuno nova. Sa kakvim utiscima odlaziš iz Beograda? Kako bi opisao našu publiku? – Beograd uvek ostavi jak utisak na mene kad god dođem, bez obzira na to sa kim sam na turneji. Neverovatno je videti publiku, tako mladu, tako punu energije, koja zaista razume šta se svira. Stičem utisak da u Beogradu postoji jaka muzička kultura. Šta mislite, kakav je značaj muzike i kulture u društvu? –Mislimda je svet konačno počeo da posmatra umetnost kao nešto od suštinskog značaja za našu srecu, a ne samo kao jednokratnu formu prolaznosti vremena. Ljudi sada na to gledaju kao na lek, što je upravo ono što jeste. Šta planirate u bliskoj buducnosti? – Novi album Empire Central izlazi u septembru i bićemo na turneji većinu vremena radi promocije novog materijala. Veoma sam uzbuđen što imamo 16 potpuno novih pesama! However, on the back of the success of their latest Grammy-winning album, Live At The Royal Albert Hall, the band is doing everything but slowing down - as demonstrated by the March 2022 recording of their 14th album, Empire Central, which is an unapologetic love letter to the city of Dallas, where it all began for Snarky Puppy back in 2004. In the buildup to theBelgrade concert that’s being organisedbyMusicologySessions, we spoke with bassist and band founder Michael League… What can the Belgrade audience expect at your concert? “Wewillperformacompletelynew group of songs from the new album Empire Central. We might throw in a fewolder songs, but the vastmajority of material will be brand new.” What kinds of impressions do you take away from Belgrade? How would you describe the Belgrade audience? “Belgrade always leaves a strong impression on me whenever I come, regardlessofwho I’mtouringwith. It’s amazing to see an audience that’s so young and so full of energy, and one that really understands what’s being played. I get the feeling that a strong music culture exists in Belgrade.” What do you think of the importance of music and culture in society? “I think the world has finally begun to see art as something that’s crucial toour happiness, andnot just as a disposable way of passing time. People now view it as medicine, which is precisely what it is.” What do you plan for the immediate future? “The new album, Empire Central, comes out in September and we’ll be on tour promoting the new material most of the time.
