A photography exhibition illustrating the past, present and future of these two pillars of Serbian aviation was on display at the head office of Air Serbia during June, only to be moved to Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport on 1st July, where it will remain for the next three months, enabling visitors to learn about the history of aviation in Serbia. The official opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia, Air Serbia and Belgrade Airport, as well as business partners and media representatives. “In this year of great anniversaries, we particularly honour the visionaries who founded the first domestic airline – Aeroput – all the way back in 1927. We are glad that we are joining forces with our partners from Belgrade Airport to celebrate this important year for Serbian aviation, and we are convinced that all visitors, and our passengers, will enjoy this exhibition of photographs documenting all key periods in the operations of the national airline and Belgrade Airport. The exhibition represents symbolic testimony to the development fromAeroput, via Yugoslav Airlines (JAT) and JAT Airways, to Air Serbia, which continues to inscribe chapters of history by confirming its role as a regional leader in the aviation industry,” said Air Serbia CEO Jiří Marek. In addition to the photography exhibition and the addition of a special emblem on its planes, Air Serbia is also celebrating its 95th anniversary with a commemorative postage stamp created in cooperation with Post of Serbia. “These two remarkable milestones for the Serbian aviation industry are proof of how tradition and expertise can work successfully together with modernisation, expansion and innovation even during very challenging times. Together, the national airline and the airport will continue to strengthen Belgrade’s position as a well-connected regional hub, and to reaffirm this part of Europe as a desirable destination,” said Belgrade Airport CEO Francois Berisot. As the successor to Aeroput, Air Serbia ranks in the eighth place on the list of the world’s oldest airlines that are still operational. Aeroput’s inaugural CEO, and the person most responsible for it managing to be established despite numerous challenges, was Tadija Sondermajer, a pioneering elite Serbian military aviator and aeronautical engineer.
