Građena je od 1966. do 1970. kao deo gradskog auto-puta, a otvorena 4. decembra 1970. u prisustvu Josipa Broza Tita i Branka Pešića. Gazela se iznad Save izdiže 22,8metara pri srednjem vodostaju, a ime je ovomprelepommostu dao Đorđe Lazarević, predsednik konkursne komisije za gradnju mosta. Rekao je: „Ovaj most je preskočio Savu kao gazela“. Gazela Bridge, over the Sava, is the busiest Belgrade bridge. Built from 1966 to 1970 as part of the city highway, it opened on 4th December 1970, in the presence of Josip Broz Tito and Belgrade Mayor Branko Pešić. Gazela rises 22.8metres above the Sava during the middle water level, and this beautiful bridge was named by Đorđe Lazarević, the president of the competition commission for the construction of the bridge.
