he flight to New York takes the longest among the
flights in the network of Air Serbia, lasting about 9.5
hours. Unlike shorter flights, such a long flight includes
a crew of three pilots who take turns, with each of them
resting for about three hours on a seat in business class
reserved for the crew.
A large part of this journey takes place over the
Atlantic Ocean. The wide-bodied Airbus A330 aircraft that
Air Serbia uses to fly to New York is by far the most com-
mon type of aeroplane used for transatlantic flights from
Europe to North America, because it is very economical
and extremely reliable. Some of the systems on the plane
are tripled, meaning the A330 is one of the most techno-
logically advanced types when it comes to flight safety.
More than 20 million people a year fly over the Atlantic
Ocean on scheduled flights.
The flight over the Atlantic Ocean is specific, with
the flight routes determined by the competent air traffic
control authorities on a daily basis, depending on several
factors – the most important of which is the speed of jet
streams in the upper layers of the atmosphere. Due to
strong air currents the length of the flight varies by up to
an hour, depending on which direction is being flown. The
flight from America to Europe is usually shorter due to the
backwinds that speed up the plane.

mreži linija Er Srbije, oko 9,5 sati. Za razliku
od letova koji su vremenski kraći, na tako dug
let polazi posada od tri pilota koji se smenjuju, a
svaki od njih odmara se oko tri sata na sedištu u
biznis klasi rezervisanom za odmor posade.
Veliki deo tog puta odvija se iznad Atlantskog
okeana. Širokotrupni avion erbas A330 kojim Er
Srbija leti za Njujork ubedljivo je najzastupljeniji
tip aviona na preletima od Evrope ka Severnoj
Americi, jer je vrlo ekonomičan i izuzetno pou-
zdan. Neki od sistema na avionu su utrostručeni,
pa A330 po bezbednosti letenja spada u tehno-
loški najnaprednije tipove. Više od 20 miliona
ljudi godišnje leti u redovnom saobraćaju preko
Atlantskog okeana.
Let iznad Atlantskog okeana je specifičan,
rute leta se određuju u nadležnoj kontroli letenja
svakodnevno, u zavisnosti od više faktora među
kojima je najvažniji brzina mlaznih struja u višim
slojevima atmosfere. Zbog jakih vazdušnih stru-
janja dužina leta se razlikuje i do sat vremena u
zavisnosti u kom smeru se leti. Let iz Amerike ka
Evropi obično je kraći zbog leđnih vetrova koji
ubrzavaju avion.
