Er Srbija » Air Serbia | 3 Reč dobrodošlice Welcomemessage Itwas almost half a century ago that one of the most famous musicians in the Balkans released a song entitled April in Belgrade, a song that’s sung spontaneously on occasion throughout the month by all of us who reside in the capital. Belgrade is at its most beautiful in spring, when it is filled with “sunny and smiling days”. If you are reading this aboard one of Air Serbia’s flights to Belgrade, believe me, you have chosen the best part of the year to get acquainted with the city on the confluence of the Sava and Danube. Belgrade is our company’smain hub. It is whereNikola Tesla Airport is located, fromwhich we fly tomore than 80 destinations across Europe, Asia, Africa and North America. This April, for the first time, we will be operating flights from Belgrade to Ankara, Lisbon, İzmir and Catania, while we have also reinstated flights to Tel Aviv. Our passengers are particularly pleased with the addition of direct flights to Lisbon. We have opened the door to passengers wishing to explore this historic city, where old customsandancienthistory intertwinewithmodernculture and entertainment and fadomusic that is recited against a guitar backdrop. Lisbon is one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, andone that youcannowreachdirectly in just four hours thanks to the scheduled Air Serbia flight. Easter is this year being celebrated in April, according to both the Julian and Gregorian calendars. The greatest Christian holiday carries special symbolism due to the joy it brings. We believe that our flights to Tel Aviv will be useful for thosewishing to spend their Easter in Israel. Explore this land of charming diversity, where the ancient and the modern intertwine constantly. On the east coast of Sicily and at the foot of Mount Etna lies the beautiful Catania. Adventurers fromall over the world view it as a starting point for exploring the tallest volcano in Europe. Even though Etna is one of Sicily’s greatest landmarks, during your stay in Catania you should be sure not tomiss the opportunity to check out the city’s fantastic architecture, numerous cultural andhistoricalmonuments and beautiful beaches, but also to experience the cuisine. We recommend Arancino and Alla Norma pasta, but you should also remain open to trying other Sicilian delicacies. If youhaven’t previously visited İzmir, younowhave an opportunity todo so.Our flights take youdirectly to this interesting Turkish city that marks a meeting point between East andWest; betweenEurope, Africa andAsia. İzmir has a wealth of natural beauty, and nearby you can find themagnificentEphesus, Çeşme, Kuşadası, Şirince,UrluandSelçuk. Regardless of which side of the world you are heading to this April, we hope that you will return home feeling more fulfilled. Upravo iz Beograda ovog aprila prvi put letimo do Ankare, Lisabona, Izmira i Katanije, a obnovili smo i letove do Tel Aviva. Naši letovi vode vas direktno do tog interesantnog grada u Turskoj u kom se prepliću Istok i Zapad, Evropa, Afrika i Azija.

Ipak upravo taj, mnogi će reći „haos“, čini ga neodoljivim i definitivno jedinstvenim. Ovde ćeThe Egyptian capital of Cairo is one of the world’s oldest cities. You simply must visit this treasure trove of history and culture, this other worldly place, at least once in your life. Smell the spices, experience Africa, feel the sand in this city that’s called Al Qahirah in Arabic, meaning the Victorious City. Must-see places during your visit to Cairo definitely include a tour of the Grand Egyptian Museum, one of the largest museums in the world, but also Al-Azhar Mosque, the Coptic Quarter, Tahrir Square, modern Cairo’s city centre and the nearby Parliament of Egypt, the Roda Island on the Nile etc. Of course, you also shouldn’t miss out on an evening cruise down the Nile, with an oriental programme and dinner on board. The river traverses Cairo, which – apart from the banks of the great river – also occupies the territory of three river islands. Located to the west of the Nile is the new, modern Cairo, which was mainly built during the reign of Ismail the Magnificent and modelled on the example of Paris. It is characterised by its wide streets and boulevards, spacious parks and modern architecture. Sprawling over the area to the east of the river is the old city, Islamic/Medieval Cairo and Coptic Cairo, which boast numerous sacral buildings representing various religions. The islands, which are occupied by residential neighbourhoods and luxurious settlements, are connected to the city by numerous bridges, which also connect Cairo to the suburbs of Giza and Imbaba. The city is lively, hectic and interesting, but if you’re accustomed to everything being orderly and precisely arranged, you’ll be left wanting here. Still, it is precisely this aspect that many would describe as “chaos” that makes Pobednički grad na obali Nila Victorious city on the banks of the Nile smarttravel Foto: depositphotos / Givaga
Here you will see wonders of the world, cruise the Nile, visit Christian churches or mosques, walk across some of the bridges where the city’s residents often socialise... All in all, this city is something very special that probably differs from the cities to which most of us are accustomed. The Nile runs through the entire city, so you can familiarise yourself with Cairo by following the course of the river, especially if you’re staying at one of the hotels situated along the riverbank. The Coptic quarter is an old, extremely beautiful and tranquil neighbourhood, which is home to the beautiful church of the Holy Virgin Mary that dates back to the 7th century. The architecture is also interesting here, with the quarter’s streets paved and narrow, while there are also many cafés offering respite in the form of tea and other refreshments. The atmosphere of the city is stite da probate ful medames, jedan od specijaliteta egipatske kuhinje. Odatle je pogled neponovljiv. metara visok je toranj koji se nalazi u samom centru grada At the very centre of the city is the 187-metretall Cairo Tower Khan el Khalili, jedan od najvećih bazara ne samo u Egiptu već i šire, ima sve, od igle do lokomotive On the market Khan el-Khalili, which is one of the largest bazaars not only in Egypt, but anywhere in the world, you’ll find everything from aardvarks to zorillas Kad ste već u Kairu, ne propustite da probate ful medames, jedan od specijaliteta egipatske kuhinje And while you’re already in Cairo, don’t miss out on the famous stew Ful Medames, one of the specialities of Egyptian cuisine 187 such that one gets the impression that everyone is in some kind of a rush, that everyone is hurrying and hustling, while the sheer number of cars is incredible. On the other hand, Egyptians also like to “chill”, which they do by sitting in parks, on benches, street sides, cafés and coffee houses, chatting, socialising or simply observing the city and people occupied by their own thoughts. They are kindly and want to help, explain and offer guidance. However, in Cairo, where everything is diverse and so excitingly chaotic, the best thing is perhaps to allow the city’s rhythm to carry you wherever it wants. If you are used to visiting shops where everything is in its proper place, where the items have fixed prices and the shopkeepers don’t offer comments, Cairo isn’t the place for you. On the market Khan el-Khalili, which is one of the largest bazaars not only in Egypt, but anywhere in the world, you’ll find everything from aardvarks to zorillas. There are all sorts available here, from souvenirs and jewellery, to leather, textiles, spices, the most varied clothing and footwear, toys, Egyptian cotton, furniture, home decorations and much, much more. The bazaar operates round the clock, so there’s no special time to visit. This is also a favourite place for people to socialise, stroll, stop by for a chat... And while you’re already in Cairo, don’t miss out on the famous stew Ful Medames, one of the specialities of Egyptian cuisine. You can order it at one of the local restaurants specialising in Egyptian national cuisine, but it is completely authentic to buy this dish on the street. Among the places acclaimed for their version of fūl, which is the shortened name for this famous dish, is an eatery located in one of the side streets near the Al-Sayeda Zainab Mosque at the historic heart of Cairo. This dish is essentially a stewmade from cooked fava beans, served with olive oil and cumin, and optionally chopped parsley, lemon juice, hot peppers and other vegetables, herbs and spices. It is eaten by dipping very tasty Egyptian flatbread into the stew, meaning this speciality is traditionally eaten without cutlery, though that is naturally your choice. Egyptians also have a culture of drinking tea at any time of the day. Hibiscus is cultivated in Egypt and drunk both as a cold juice and as a hot tea, though black tea is also very popular. Cairo is a city that’s seemingly without beginning or end, so you’ll have to ascend to some high spot if you’re seeking a panoramic view. At the very centre of the city is the 187-metre-tall Cairo Tower, which houses a restaurant offering various Egyptian specialities, drinks and, of course, shisha pipes, which can be found almost everywhere. The stunning view from this tower is simply inimitable. Foto: depositphotos / antonaleksenko82.gmail.com Foto: depositphotos Foto: depositphotos
Numerous interesting sites linked to the history of Egypt are located in close proximity to Cairo. GIZA The number one spot is Giza, with its famous pyramids and the mystical Sphinx. Leading to the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile is the 11-kilometre-long pyramid road, Al-Haram Street. First established back in 1869, to coincide with the opening of the Suez Canal, it has since been widened and tarmacked. Believed to have been conceived as tombs, the pyramids represent giant staircases that lead the ascent of the soul and spirit of departed kings towards the sun and the spirit world. The Giza pyramids were built to last eternally. Constructed approximately 4,500 years ago, these monumental structures represent relics of the period of the Old Kingdom of Egypt. In the belief that the pharaohs would become gods after they died, their tombs were filled with things that every ruler would need to survive in the afterlife. Khufu, aka Cheops, is the pharaoh believed to have first begun the project to construct the Giza pyramid complex in around the year 2550 B.C. The Great Pyramid, the largest in Giza, rises to a height of approximately 147 metres above the plateau. Each of its 2.3 million stone blocks has an estimated weight of between 2.5 and 15 tons. The modern Bibliotheca Alexandrina, commemorating the ancient original, comprises numerous museums and galleries, a planetarium and countless books (there are six specialised libraries). With the original having been lost to fire in antiquity, the modern library was only completed in 2002. You should also be sure to visit the Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi Mosque, one of the oldest and most beautiful mosques in Egypt. While walking through the city, you’ll also easily spot the Fort Qaitbey citadel located along the coast. Nikada nam to nije bilo čudno. Growing upwith Stellanwasn’t fun I recall my childhood for the pressure and the question of whether I would manage to succeed my father. I remember giving my maximum energy at the age of 13 just to comprehend who I am and what was then happening to me. It scared me that I was being talked about in the media; that made me insecure A l exande r Sk arsgård, actor Alexander Skarsgård has portrayed Vikings and vampires, robbers and soldiers in the trenches. We can currently see himas sociopathic tycoon Lucas Madsen in the series Succession, while he officially took on the crown of the king of the jungle as the most recent incarnation of Tarzan. However, we can’t summarise his career without mentioning the legendary fact that he tried to kill pop icon Lady Gaga. Of course, he did so in the music video for her song Paparazzi. You almost certainly remember the attractive blonde guy who throws Gaga froma balcony. Yes, that was a then-not-so-famous Skarsgård. It’s true that the singer later fixed this Scandinavian Apollo with a few drops of poison, but that hasn’t been the case with his career. For Alexander, that music video was a springboard for a role in True Blood, one of the most popular Emmy-award-winning teen series. It was ten years ago, on the Fox channel, that we in Serbia watched this romanticised vampire drama in which Skarsgård portrays the character of Eric Northman, a guy eternally on the edge of good and evil. And as of 3rd April this year, its sister series, The Vampire Diaries, arrives on the same channel. And recollections of that period, when small screens were dominated by bloodthirsty heroes who oozed sex appeal, provided a topic withwhich to start our interview with Skarsgård, whose career has to date lasted for more than two decades. Do you recall the first role that propelled you to stardom? -That was themovie Zoolander with Ben Stiller, and that was hardly a film that inscribed me among the big names of Hollywood. But it was a good springboard. I remember it as a crazy and glamorous experience. The very fact that I was shooting a movie with Ben Stiller already appeared surreal to me. I was barely an actor at that time. I was on the streets of NewYork two weeks later, in a jeep cruising its avenues to the music of the group Wham. I then truly believed that miracles are possible inHollywood. However, not everything is a result of ordinary miracles. You hail from an acting family. Your father is Stellan Skarsgård. How much did this fact influence your decision to pursue a career in acting? - He is also partly to blame for me applying for the audition for Zoolander. We are more like brothers than father and son. We hang out together. He often joins my crowd for nights outwhenwe’re inLosAngeles or Stockholm.Wenever found that weird. However, growing up with Stellan Skarsgård wasn’t that much fun. At the time when I was little and forming my interests, he was at the peak of his career. I remembermy childhood according to his theatre performances. I didn’t miss a single show. Itwaswith them that I fell in love with acting. But there was also the pressure of being Stellan’s son. How did you handle that pressure? - Poorly. It’s impossible for a child to handle that. I remember giving my maximum energy at the age of 13 just to comprehend who I amand what was then happening to me. It scared me that I was being talked about inmagazines or on television; that what Stellan Skarsgård's son looks like, what I'm like as a person and what I like, was a topic for everyone. That made me feel insecure and anxious. I turned for help to the only personwhowas qualified to give me advice: my father. He explained to me that the work of an actor is difficult, and that it’s rare for someone to succeed in making a living from this calling. He advisedme that, because of this, it was important that I only do what I felt was right. And only to devote myself to acting if I believe that I will be able to be one of those privileged actors. It was then that I decided that I would never be an actor like my father. Nonetheless, all these years later, here you are in acting? - It was only many years later, when I was 20 and halfway through my first year of studies, that I realised that I missed acting. I didn’t want to reject that interest only to regret it at the age of 50.That’s why I enrolled in drama school in New York, and then came that role in Zoolander. I spent the next three years flying over the Atlantic between Sweden and America, heading from one audition to another. Next followed a role in an HBO series, and then that video with Lady Gaga. And then, finally, that famous True Blood. The character of Eric fromTrue Blood is very different frommy Michael inMelancholia, for example, but I feel like I have both of themwithin me, and that’s what I think is interesting among human beings – that we’re capable of somuch, both good and bad, and that we struggle with that constantly. What was the biggest challenge that this series brought you? - This is about two challenges. The first is the fact that this was the first time in my career that I had such a major role, and that I spent seven years in it. That was a priceless experience for me. And the second is perhaps evenmore demandingphysically. During the seven years that I acted in the series, I had to maintain a light complexion. Vampires aren’t really known for their tanned skin [laughs].That was one of themore serious conditions for all of us who played vampires. And we shot the series in Southern California.
