This yearmarks the 350th anniversary of the death of Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn. To honour this jubilee, Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum, which owns the largest collection of this artist’s works, is presenting all its Rembrandts. The exhibition’s title, which is simpleyet preciseandwitty, could be our key to the concept. Born 15th July 1606 in Leiden, he studied painting there and resided in the city until 1630, when he moved to Amsterdam following his father’s death. He is considered one of the greatest artists of all time and the most important artist of the Golden Age of Dutch painting. He was characterised by an exceptional perceptiveness for human conditions, feelings and behaviours, but also the virtuous and innovative way that he represented light, space and atmospheres.
