62 | Ritamgrada» Rhythm of the city R I TAM GRADA RHYTHM OF THE CI TY Belgrade oasis of peace and tranquillity The small river island of Ada Međica is hidden away, clean and orderly, without cars and crowds, a place where you can be alone with the river It only takes around ten minutes to travel from the bustle of the city to the green oasis of Ada Međica, tranquil and nestled away in greenery, washed by the waves of the Sava fromAda Ciganlija on one side and the blocks of New Belgrade on the other. You can’t get to this hideout of the capital by road, only by boat, your own or the one ferrying guests from Block 70, but there are many reasons to take that boat and walk the lanes that have been trampled from the beginning by famous actors, painters, journalists, writers and other Belgrade legends. It was way back in 1962 when the first tree house was created by architect Peđa Ristić. Here you can enjoy yourself strolling for hours, but also enjoy views of those attractive little houses and gardens that fit perfectly into the ambience. However, before you step aboard, it is required to follow the instructions of the Ada Međica Association of Lovers of the Sava andDanube, which says: “when you board the boat that sails from the Sava quayside to Ada Međica, on the riverbank you leave behind your surname, position, profession, party affiliation, bank balance... You step onto the island with only that which makes you human and lungs filled with love for nature”. is is perhaps also the best description of the situation you will encounter on the island. It is actually only just over a kilometre long and has a beach on the upper tip that everyone can use. e water in this part of Belgrade is crystal clean and completely safe.
