Svako ukrcavanje u avionmi izmami osmeh jer me letenje opušta, zaboravimna svakodnevicu. I fell in love with flying backwhen I was a boy, and that feeling of positive jitters, anticipation and excitement has remained with me to this day. Every time I board a plane it makes me smile, because flying relaxes me; I forget everything about everyday life. The stress disappears as soon as I take my seat on the plane. When I have the option, I choose a window seat, so I can observe the panorama of the city I’m approaching, and those arememorablemoments. On the other hand, the reason I always prioritise travelling by plane over any other means of transport is the huge savings in terms of time, which we all seem to be lacking. I also like planes because I can jumptomyfavouritecentresof fashion, such as Paris, Rome and New York, which provides us creative folk with the opportunity to enjoy new trends, and to do so live. Cathedral The beautiful Gothic Cathedral of the Virgin Mary is a symbol of the city and one of its main attractions. It stands on a site once occupied by a temple of the Roman goddess of the hunt Diana, which the Romans erected in her honour, and a later replaced with a mosque. It was in the 13th century that the Spaniards demolished the mosque and laid the foundations of today’s cathedral. That was in 1262, but construction lasted 94 years, while the cathedral was rebuilt several times over the following few hundred years. U Beograd! zauzeli centar Beograda, spustili helikopter, izokrenuli nekoliko automobila i izazvali opštu pometnju u gradu. Pritom i „pohapsili“ neke naše glumce, mada ćemo to tek gledati u trećoj sezoni… –Naša serija je poznata po toSampočetak treće sezone, prve dve epizode, zaista se odvijaju u Beogradu, odnosno u Srbiji The start of the third season, the first two episodes, really take place in Belgrade, or in Serbia

Intervju / Intervi ew Serija » Series | 25 24 | Serija » Series me što uvek bira prave lokacije za snimanje. Retko snimamo u studiju. Smatramda prava lokacija daje posebnu i specifičnu vizuelnu notu. Dav i d Bor eana z , actor I can’t wait to return to Serbia We first met him as the handsome “vampire with a soul” who loved Buffy, then fell in love with him as charming FBI agent Seeley Booth in the series Bones, only to discover that he’d also fallen in love while shooting his latest series, SEAL Team, and that he’d actually fallen in love with Belgrade! Slayer, or for his work on the series Bones, but only his truly adoring fans know that his first role was in the series Married... with Children, and that he appeared in the music video for British singer Dido’s song White Flag. Oneof themost engagedpeople on television, he’s an actor and producer whose projects roll out continuously, one after another, with him standing both in front of and behind the camera…Following the endof shooting after awhopping12 seasons of the showBones, he dedicated himself to CBS Television’s military drama series SEAL Team, in which he is both the lead actor and executive producer. This show serialises the professional and personal lives of the most elite unit of the Navy SEALS, showing precisely what these special forces do, and we actually sawfirst-handwhat they do when they took over Belgrade city centre for the needs of shooting, flying a helicopter lowandoverturning several cars as they caused general commotion across the city. They also “arrested” some of our local actors, though we’ll only watch that happen in the third season. What do you remember about your time spent filming in Serbia for the third season of SEAL Team? - I mostly remember that I still want to go back to Serbia. We were welcomedbywonderful people, who were genuinely happy about us working in their country. As I’malso the producer of this series, it was a great challenge forme towork both behind and in front of the camera over the course of 16 days. I nonetheless managed to devote every free moment I had to familiarising myself with Belgrade and walking its streets. After many years, I also saw a Yugo car. You probably already know that story: that make was the first car I owned, whichmy parents bought me to drive myself to school. One day, during filming in Belgrade, I stumbled across a Yugo and was thrilled to discover that those cars still exist. Will Belgrade represent some other city or is the story really set in Serbia? - The start of the season, the first two episodes, really take place in Belgrade, or in Serbia. In accordance with the screenplay, we work together with domestic special forces to tackle a terrorist threat that’s carrying out activities that could destabilise the entire world. Weworkedwith a lot of local actors. The filmshoot conditionswere phenomenal, there are fewplaceswhere we encounter such good and creative experts. We really felt totally relaxed and ready for work at any instant. When it comes to the season itself, those first two episodes are the most explosive and intriguing, and they’re an introduction to the next two episodes, which were also shot in Serbia, but for themBelgrade portrays Paris. Did you manage to uncover We can almost conclude that we’ve been watching DavidBoreanazonour TV screens for at least two decades. He’s best known to most as Angel from the show Buffy the Vampire sa sobom, ali na kraju bismo nas dvojicauveknekakopronašli kompromis. Međutim, onaj drugi, glumac, odmah ućutka ovog prvog i šapnemi: „Samo nastavi, nisi slabić“. Intervju / Intervi ew Serija » Series | 27 26 | Serija » Series all of our little secrets? - I knowthat Serbia is renowned for its great food, but this was the first time I’d had an opportunity to confirm that for myself. I’ma great gourmet, but also a lover of local specialities. I like to enjoy all the local flavours and aromas. In your country, however, I was delighted with the vegetables, which were so tasty that I ordered our head chef to make all our meals from fresh, organic food, just so that I could enjoy meals that have flavour, if only briefly. Serbia reminded me that food ismore than a collection of vitamins and proteins that serve us as fuel. It doesn’t only move our body, but also our soul. Why did you choose Serbia specifically to shoot the third season? - Our show is known for always selecting the right filming locations. We rarely shoot in a studio. To me, the right location provides a special and specific visual element. It’s difficult touse animation and fake scenery to invoke the true spirit of the country where the action unfolds. We’ve never worked in that way at least. We shot one of the previous seasons in Puerto Rico. With Serbia, it just so happened that all our requirements aligned. Apart from an original setting, we also got a high-quality creative team, which meant a lot to us from the professional aspect. There are many similar shows. What makes SEAL Team different? - I think it’s precisely that firsthand approach. This is a military action drama and the soldiers are to the fore. However, the emphasis isn’t placed as much on the action scenes as it is on emphasising the true meaning of military life. The spirit of the military. When coming up with the episodes, we didn’t leave anything to chance. We had real military veterans as consultants. They helped me a lot when it came to making some details of the story more credible. Interestingly, I actually wear the helmet of one of those veterans in the show. Despite it beingmuch heavier than the helmets normally used on set, I wouldn’t dreamof replacing it. Little things like that actually helpme to always keep somewhere in my mind the debt of gratitude we owe to people who go into battle so the rest of us can sleep peacefully. What was the greatest challenge you faced making this show? -That’s definitely the challenge, as an actor, of being your own director. That’s a very demanding responsibility. It requires huge discipline and self-control not to fire yourself [laughs]. Actors are characteristic for sometimes being a bit stubborn and always trying to adjust the camera to suit themselves and their ideas. The work and requirements of directing, however, are much simpler. The director is only looking for one thing – a good shot. And nothing else interests him. I was capable of arguing with myself, but the two of us would ultimately always somehow find a compromise. Though there were some extreme situations. For instance, I always insist on original military equipment that’s several pounds heavier. In thosemoments, the director within me says – ‘David, take that off and put on your stage kit, you’ll break your back and knees’. However, that other character, the actor, immediately hushes the first guy and whispers to me – ‘just keep going, you’re not a weakling’. Unfortunately, on that occasion the director was right. After ten steps, I tripped, sprained my wrist and nearly dislocated both knees. I’ve left those sorts of scenes to extras since then. It just so happens that we’ve followed your career in Serbia through almost all of your previous shows. Today, 30 years into your career, how do you see those first steps? - I think I was initially very awkward and clumsy. Like someone staggering fromsteppingstone to steppingstone until I reached solid ground and knocked on the right door. Buffy wasmy big ticket to the world of television, but it took a long time for that opportunity to arise. That break comes earlier for some, while there are actors who only get the roles of their life towards the end of their careers. In my case, I foundmyself in the right place at the right time. And there’s nothing that I’d change today. Inmy life, I’ve always played safe cards. Work anddedication always pay off. Everything else is a gamble. Oduševio sam se što ta kola i dalje postoje After many years, I also saw a Yugo car! That make was the first car I owned, which my parents bought me to drive myself to school. I was thrilled that those cars still exist
