250 godina Pratera
Jedan od najstarijih javnih parkova u Evropi, bečki Prater, slavi
250 godina postojanja.

250 years of Prater
One of the oldest public parks in Europe, Viennese Prater, is
celebrating 250 years of its existence. Covering an area of six
square kilometres, this park in the centre of the Austrian capital
includes an amusement park, a large swimming pool, sports
facilities and huge green lawns, after which the park was named
(from the Latin
Pratum
- grassland). Established by the decree of
Emperor Joseph II in 1766, the most famous element of Prater is
a large Ferris wheel (pictured), the gondolas of which are used
by the amusement park to organise optional candlelit dinners
with panoramic views of the city.

Otvaranje
jevrejskih katakombi
Od 1. maja do 5. juna Rim će po prvi
put za javnost otvoriti jevrejske
katakombe koje se prostiru ispod
nekadašnjih vinograda „Vinja
Randanini“. Splet tunela na dubini
3-15 metara, otkriven 1859. godine,
jedan je od malobrojnih koje je
koristila jevrejska zajednica u an-
tičkom Rimu. Otvaranje katakombi
je jedna od inicijativa italijanskog
Ministarstva kulture povodom
Jubilarne godine milosrđa koju je
proglasio papa Franja, a privući će
ovog leta veliki broj hodočasnika
u Rim. Zidovi tunela prekriveni su
freskama i crtežima (na slici).

Jewish
catacombs opened
From 1
st
May to 5
th
June the City of Rome
will open the Jewish catacombs, located
underneath a former vineyard Vigna
Randanini, to the public for the first
time. The network of tunnels at a depth
of three to fifteen metres, discovered in
1859, is one of a few that were used by the
Jewish community in ancient Rome. The
opening of the catacombs is one of the
initiatives of the Italian Ministry of Cul-
ture to mark the occasion of the Jubilee
Year of mercy proclaimed by Pope Fran-
cis, which will attract a large number of
pilgrims to Rome this summer. The walls
of the tunnels are covered with frescoes
and drawings (pictured).
