which Prada was able to borrow for this ex-

hibition from the National Museum of Iran!

However, thanks to that we can compare six

Roman Penelope statues and nine different

Roman versions of Discobolus.

Regardless of the most important

ancient sculptures and this series of major

works of contemporary art, the most visited

part of the entire Prada Foundation complex

is probably the café.

It seems that there was an expectation

of that within Prada, and so they are not

ashamed of the place. The café, or rather

Bar Luce, also has an ‘artistic’ dimension.

It was designed by director Wes Anderson,

who was nominated for an Oscar for the

film “The Grand Budapest Hotel”. It bears

a striking resemblance to the bar from the

short 2013 film Castello Cavalcanti, which

Anderson made for Prada.

Anderson has often explained that the

inspiration for the café came from the great

Italian neo-realism classics, “Miracle in Mi-

lan” and the film “Rocco and His Brothers”.

However, it most resembles the fictional

world of Anderson’s films.

This is a strange combination of an

American bar from the 1950s – with Formica

tables and benches, a jukebox and pinball

machine – and Milanese 19

century luxury

and elegance. The vault and the walls are

decorated as an imitation of Milan’s Gal-

leria Vittorio Emanule II. Perhaps this is

not coincidental: the Prada family business

was founded by the grandfather of today’s

fashion director Miuccia, who opened a

store of expensive leather suitcase in this

prestigious gallery with his brother in 1914.

For Luce Bar, with its wide selection of sand-

wiches, aperitifs and cocktails, Anderson

himself says: “Although I think this could be

the perfect film set, I am convinced it is an

even better space for writing film scripts. I

wanted to create a bar where I would like to

spend my afternoon”.

Čini se da su u Pradi to i očekiva-

li i zbog toga se ne stide. Kafe, tačnije

(2013) koji

je Anderson napravio za Pradu.

Anderson je često objašnjavao

da je kafe nadahnut velikim italijan-

skim klasicima neorealizma,

u Milanu

i filmom

. Ipak, najviše podseća na izmi-

šljeni Andersonov svet iz njegovih

filmova.

To je čudna kombinacija američ-

kog bara iz pedesetih – sa stolovima

i klupama od ultrapasa, džuboksom

i fliperom – i milanske raskoši i

elegancije 19. veka. Naime, svod i

zidovi ukrašeni su imitacijom mi-

lanske galerije Vitorio Emanuele II.

Možda to i nije slučajno: porodično

preduzeće Prada osnovao je deda

današnje modne direktorke Miuče,

koji je još 1914. s bratom otvorio

trgovinu skupih kožnih kofera u toj

prestižnoj Galeriji. Za Bar Luče, s

velikim izborom sendviča, aperitiva

i koktela, sam Anderson kaže:

„Iako mislim da bi to mogao

biti savršeni filmski set, uveren sam

da je još bolji prostor za pisanje

filmskog scenarija. Želeo sam da

napravim bar u kojem bih voleo da

provodim svoja popodneva.“
