An exceptional retrospec-

tive exhibition of one of

the greatest contemporary

directors of animated film,

Japan’s Hayao Miyazaki,

will be held until the end

of August in Zurich’s

Filmpodium. This is a rare

opportunity for Swiss and

European fans of animated

film to enjoy the imagina-

tion and mastery of this

Oscar winner, who critics

compare with Walt Disney

and Steven Spielberg. Pic-

najviše zgrade

Varšavska Palata kulture i nauke (na

snimku), sa 231 metrom najviša zgrada

u Poljskoj, proslavila je 60. rođendan.

Veliko zdanje bilo je poklon sovjet-

skog diktatora Staljina gradu i deceni-

jama je izazivalo protivrečna osećanja.

Socrealistička arhitektura zgrada

nalikuje na moskovske nebodere, ali

i na njujorške s početka 20. veka. U

njenoj dvorani nastupali su Rolingsto-

unsi, Lenard Koen... Danas je to dom

nekoliko muzeja, pozorišta, multipleks

bioskopa i brojnih koncerata.

Warsaw

Birthday of the

tallest building

The Warsaw Palace of Culture and

Science (pictured), the tallest building

in Poland, at a height of 231 metres,

has celebrated its 60th birthday. The

great building was a gift of Soviet

dictator Stalin to the city and has

inspired conflicting emotions over the

decades. The social-realist architec-

ture of the building is reminiscent

of the Moscow skyline, but also New

York at the beginning of the 20th cen-

tury. Its hall has hosted performances

by the Rolling Stones, Leonard Cohen

and others. Today it is home to several

museums, theatres and a multiplex

cinema, and hosts numerous concerts.

Nemoguća misija

U zgradi u Beču na čijem krovu je sniman,

održana je svetska premijera petog filma iz

serije Nemoguća misija s Tomom Kruzom u

glavnoj ulozi. Holivudski spektakl je snimljen

prošle godine u glavnom gradu Austrije sa

uzbudljivim kaskaderskim scenama na krovu

Opere (na slici), jedne od najpoznatijih i naj-

lepših zgrada u Beču. Novi film je i najveća

holivudska produkcija snimljena u Austriji.

Vlada je uvela značajne finansijske podsticaj-

ne mere za inostrane filmske producente da

bi privukla još više turista, od kojih samo Beč

poseti više od 12 miliona godišnje.

Mission impossible

A building in Vienna whose roof was a shoot-

ing location, hosted the world premiere

of the fifth film in the Mission Impossible

series, with Tom Cruise in the lead role. This

Hollywood spectacle was shot last year in

the Austrian capital, with exciting stunts

performed on the roof of the Opera House

(pictured), one of the most famous and most

beautiful buildings in Vienna. The new film is

also the biggest Hollywood production shot

in Austria. The Austrian government has

introduced significant financial incentives for

foreign film
